Critical Theories Bugs life

Bugs life

Auteur theory

The directors are Andrew Stanton and John Lasseter as well as the writers for this movie.
They both worked on other  Pixar film such as Toy Story and Monsters INC. Pixar has recurring cast such as Bud Luckey who's a sketch artist for Toy Story and Monster INC. All their Movies have a moral behind them. Bug's life moral is the hive is the government and society  and Flik is an out cast due to his inventions. Bug life is saying that if your different to what society wants you will find it hard to belong however different is not bad and one day being different will help you out and the society.

Feminist Theory

Bug's life changes the Iconography of some of the male roles and female roles like the lady bird is thought of being female but in the film its a male that looks after kids from the ant hive. (a mother role) The Black widow spider is thought of a male but its female in the film. The caterpillar/butterfly is male and the moth is female. The hive is ruled by queens and have no male royalty.

Psychoanalytic  Theory

The theory is that Pixar is all in the same universe and bugs life is based between the years 2898-3000  and when mankind is nearly extinct this is shown when an ant tells Flik not to leave the island because there are "snakes, birds, and bigger bugs out there." They do not mention humans, because there are very few humans to make it dangerous enough for insects to worry about. However, one kid did allegedly pick the wings off of the homeless bug.
