genre
Im in support for genre due to that fact that if we don't have it you could easily go and see the wrong films. Genre is a way for the media industry to advise and find target audiences for new films. This helps knowing what films you want to go and see are what you want it to be. As if you had no genre film industries will find it harder to find their target audience and adverting the film will be harder as well.

The nick-name of the soldiers in the Vietnam war were marines and south Vietnam was a democracy country and america help all democracy in the cold war, south Vietnam was a colony of america and thats were the name colonial marines. The costumes of the colonial marines are very similar to what the marines outfit in the Vietnam. The dropship in the film also looks very similar to the helicoptar used in the Vietnam war.

Guillermo del toro
Distinct visual style, technique and recurring themes
His movies are surreal with fantasy/fairy tales or horror in modern or near modern day times. E.g Pan's labyrinth is a fantasy set in 1944. His movies are also very dark and though might end with the hero winning at the end of the film they don't win with out a lost. E.g Cronos the hero becomes a vampire.
The main characters are also isolated for the rest of the work. E.g Hellboy want to be know but the world.
Guillermo uses two main colours Blue and Red and his posters help show this. His Period movies are all set in spain or Mexico. He also uses at the idea of bugs or bug like creatures a lot E.g. Mimic is about cockroaches. As well bugs he also uses teeth a lot e.g. vampires.
Recurring cast and crew

The Thing Remake video blog notes
Remake video blog
The thing from another world-1951
The thing -1982
The thing-2011
The Thing 1982 was the more gory and more special effects remake of The Thing From Another
World.
The thing 2011 prequel thing 1982
Location’s
1. All the films are based in the arctic reserch base
2. The thing from out of space is in the era of the cold war this. this represented Russia because the army is sent in. 1951
3. The thing from out of space is a plant alien (mutation)when the alien in the thing -1982 and 2011 is an alien that hides among us. (Terrorists)
Fears
1951 mutation was the fear around because of russia and the cold war and nuclear bombs going off the threat to mutation of animals and people. other films are THEM and GODZILLA.
1982 the fears where spies and Terrorists who could be your next-door neighbour or your husband or wife.

1982 the fears where spies and Terrorists who could be your next-door neighbour or your husband or wife.
Budget
The Thing from another world- 1.3 million to start with later
became 1.6 million.
The Thing 1982 – 15 million
The Thing 2011 -38 million.
All of these films had huge budgets this help making the
franchise so successful.
The audience
The Thing From another world
- aged 16-30. And fans of the book who goes their.
The Thing 1982 – was 18 to 26 year old who are fans of the
old one and of the books
The Thing 2011 was 15-24 and fans of the thing 1982
Why the films
1942 first rocket
into space this lead to a mass of sci-fi films including the thing from another
world.
1977 star wars first came out and sci-fi film came out as it
is a the same genre including the thing 1982
world when the films came out
-
First origin transplant - relates the film because origin fustian is in the film
1980’s royal wedding
lots of assassination
Art or money
1982 art because he followed the book more the version 1951
and there are very few similarities between this and 1951
2011 was about money however as they called it a remake and
fans called it a prequel. So they don’t
know what they made and don’t really care.
Advertisements
Distribution
The Thing 1951 and 1982 both come out months after the
release of the US, as film is big and expensive to make. So they make enough
for the US and give them out to the rest
to the world after they used them. However The Thing 2011 was released
worldwide the same day as technology have made film distribution easier ands
cheaper.
News of the film
The Thing 1982 was popular and was giving good reviews from
both the audience and critics but was more popular with the audience.

tomb raider reboot
For this new tomb raider film it will be filmed in England ,Russia, Brazil, and Egypt. The plot for the film is that Lara try's to get the Spear of Destiny before Sergei Mikhailov ( Russian mafia boss) and Admiral Yarofev(Russian submarine captain that works for Sergei) (villains from one of the early games) does.
Lara croft will be played by Camilla Luddington this is because she is the voice of Lara in the game so fans can relate to her to the game more with don't work with the original films.
Mads Mikkelsen will play the role off Sergei Mikhailov as he has the Russian boss look which is shown when he plays Hannibal in the TV show Hannibal .
Admiral Yarofev will be played by some on not famous as theirs few people I feel that could play his role that are famous actors.

Film Advertising essay- Starship Troopers
| British poster for the film. |
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y07I_KER5fE This was the original trailer for the film the trailer and the posters show that the target audience was males aged 15-25 and fans of Robocop and Total Recall. This is demonstrated by the fact there are explosions, fighting and showing it's from the same director as Robocop, which has the same target audience. I would also say the target audience would be fans of the book and middle class people as the story is about propaganda and a political system, which working class people will not get the hints about it or like that it's about that and upper class people won't like the idea of a sci fi action film as they're more into realistic films. The producers test screened this film to see how popular it was with the audience. They also did focus groups to see if the idea was liked. The film's received negative views as audiences thought the acting and humour was rubbish and aimed at children. The audience also thought the film was misleading, because of the bad reviews and bad word of mouth, the film made $22,058,773 on 2,971 screens on the opening weekend in America when the budget was estimated to be $100,000,000. The movie did not do as well as the production company had hoped and as a consequence of this, the company didn't make a large profit from the film from the cinema goers at the time.

test screening week 2
Test Screening
I learnt that before the internet film companies did test screening and if the film scored less than 70% there was something wrong with the film. however film companies did not care if the audience don't like the film, but it all changed with the film Batman and robin were it was very unpopular and the film company don't care however one of them uploaded his review online and people read the review and don't see the movie since then test screening has become less and less in the media industry.

Misrepresentation week1
Misrepresentation
In this lesson I looked at different ways that movie industry Misrepresented films. I looked at Sweeney Todd trailer which shows the film as a horror action film when its really a musical. I also made a movie poster that was made to mislead its audience to see this film when they other wise would not go and see it.
